They’re similar to HDMI ports and cables in design but have the ability to transmit data at much higher speeds. Do HDMI Cables Work with DisplayPorts?
DisplayPort connectors are a little bit different than HDMI cables. While HDMI cables have 19 pins, DisplayPort cables have 20. This ensures a very uniform design for all DP cables, and makes DP design unique in comparison to HDMI. The nice thing about DisplayPort cables is that there’s only one variety. HDMI cables, on the other hand, come in four different designs, each with different applications.
