This thing does exactly what I needed. I bought a Cambridge 851N to use as a preamp to my McIntosh amp and there are no analog inputs on the 851N. I used this converter to connect from my Teac 400s turntable to a digital input on the 851N. Perfect solution.

I am embarrassed to say that I ordered the wrong product. I should have ordered the Digital to Analog converter instead of Analog to Digital. This product does indeed convert Analog to Digital I just expected it to convert the signal to 5.1 Dolby since the original signal is already 5.1 Dolby. With today's technological advances I thought it would have the necessary built in encoder as in a home theater receiver itself.
